The Federal Government through the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has commenced the standardization of the nation’s farm produce.

Speaking at the launch of standards codes practice for agricultural products in Katsina state, the Acting Director General of SON, Dr. Paul Angya said this was informed by the recent rejection of beans from Nigeria by the European Union (EU).

He said government had already approved a list of over 200 standards for the agricultural sector and about 30 standards for agricultural produce at both the African and ECOWAS levels.

“The concept of value addition in the agricultural value chain is to ensure that all the value adding activities required to bring the agricultural products through a sequenced set of activities from the farm to the end-consumers are achieved,” he added.
